IMPORTANT INVITATION
On behalf of the committee of the RTFV/35 SQN Association in Brisbane, I wish to extend an invitation to all ex RTFV/35 SQN members, their wives, girlfriends, partners and families of deceased personnel to attend a unit reunion in Brisbane during February 2012.
The 26th of February next year will mark the 40th Anniversary of the departure of the Caribou aircraft from Vung Tau. This would be an appropriate time to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution that all who served in Vietnam made to the success of the Squadron’s operations from 1964 to 1972.
This invitation is for all ex RTFV/35 SQN personnel, not just those who subscribe to the Brisbane association. So even if you are not a member of any association, do not attend ANZAC Day marches or have not been to any of the previous reunions anywhere, this is your opportunity to come along and renew old friendships and catch up with lost colleagues from long ago.
Numerous activities are being planned with a programme of events to be published at a later date once all the details have been finalized. Some of the functions being organized include the following:-
· Sunday afternoon, 26 February - A meet and greet at Kedron Wavell Services Club.
· Monday, 27 February – A visit to RAAF Base Amberley. We are liaising with 33 Sqn to see if we can have a look at the new Airbus KC30 tanker now coming into service. (Hope they have one there on the day.) Also a visit to the Amberley Museum where there is a complete Caribou.
· Tuesday Evening – A Reunion Dinner at Kedron-Wavell RSL Club.
· Optional events include a shopping excursion for the ladies, a boat trip to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary or a game of golf at Victoria Park.
· RTV/35 SQN Plaque Dedication will be held in ANZAC Square, Brisbane.
It is being suggested that visitors requiring accommodation stay at the Oaks Apartments in Brisbane. There are three complexes close to the CBD with one and two bedroom self-contained apartments. They are very new and well appointed. John Sambrooks has negotiated a good price for us and he has previously advertised this option in the newsletter.
We are planning to bus those attending, to and from the various functions and venues. The pick up and drop off point will be in front of the Oaks Apartments in Charlotte Street. This method of bulk transport is easier and simpler than having everyone driving around Brisbane getting lost and trying to find parking.
As further details are confirmed, they will be posted on our web site, so please check occasionally for updates. If you have any queries, ideas or suggestions please contact us.
Even though we may not like to admit it, we are all now at least forty years older and a lot of us are finding it increasingly harder to travel, (and to remember things), so while we are still able to, lets make an effort to come to Brisbane next February and make the 40th Reunion an occasion to remember. Please spread the word around as some members are not in any associations or have internet access so may not be aware of the event.
Regards
John McDougall (President)
