26th February 2012.

There has been a change of venue, the meet and greet will now be held at the Kedron Wavell Services Club which is behind the Chermside Westfield Shopping Centre. (See HERE)Kedron Wavell Services Club

The meet and greet will be open to anyone who has had an Association with Wallaby airlines and I will be sending invitation letters to 2 Squadron, 9 Squadron, 1OSU and all other units that served alongside Wallaby Airlines. I also intend to invite the SAS and the RAR regiments that served at NUI DAT.

The function will start on the Sunday afternoon, about 1.00pm and will finish about 6.00pm.

Finger food will be available and for the old codgers, tea and coffee - but no crocheted rugs…..beer, spirits and wine will be available at cost.

After the Meet and Greet, there will be a free sausage sizzle at the Oaks Apartments for all those that were at the Meet and Greet. This will include beer and wine.

The time table for the few days is as follows, so pay attention!!!!!

Day two, Monday the 27th of Feb 2012.

Visit the Caloundra Air Museum, tour of the base and the Museum including morning tea. Then it is off to the Caloundra RSL for lunch, returning to Brisbane about 4/5 Pm.Caloundra RSL

Monday night will be a free night to do as you wish. If you decide to stay there, The Oaks apartments have a barbecue area beside the pool where you can cook your own, have a quiet one or two, etc…

Day three Tuesday the 28th of Feb 2012

Trip to Aerospace at Brisbane airport. Aerospace used to do the major servicing on the Caribou and have a number of contracts to service ADF aircraft, including some of the Army's top choppers.  We will be split into groups of 20 and given a conducted tour of the facilities and some of the aircraft. That should be finished and you will be free from about 2.00pm. This will give you time to get back to your digs, tub up, and get ready for the ceremonial dinner which will also be held at the Kedron Wavell Services Club.

The dinner will start at 7 PM and as yet the formalities of the night have not been finalized but it has been suggested that we make it coat and tie.

John McDougall (left) will make the welcoming speech and over the next few weeks we will work out what further speeches and what entertainment we will have on the night.

Day three, Wednesday, 29 February 2012

We’re holding a Dedication Ceremony where the RTFV/35 Squadron Plaques will be mounted at the ANZAC Shrine in Ann Street, Brisbane. This will start about 9.00am, medals to be worn.

After the ceremony, the golf is out and instead we have arranged a tour of the Castlemaine-Perkins (XXXX) brewery in Brisbane, click HERE for details. There are a variety of tours.  The full tour involves a lot of walking and includes several sets of stairs but they have a theatrette which shows the brewery operations plus the history of Castlemaine Perkins and the early days of beer in Queensland.  We are having a barbecue with a few samples of the brew after the tour.  Depending on numbers the first tour will start about 2 p.m. and the second tour will be about one and half hours after that.  The Alehouse is there if you wish to quench your thirst.

Air Train

Airtrain is the fastest, cheapest and most reliable way to travel from Brisbane Airport to the centre of Brisbane and return. Airtrain services run every 15 minutes in peak hours, and every 30 minutes outside of these hours - the express, air-conditioned journey takes only 20 minutes.

The airport stations are located directly outside the Domestic and International terminals and connect with 5 Brisbane CBD stations covering the majority of downtown Brisbane.

For more information visit www.airtrain.com.au

The normal fare from the Airport to the City is $28 per person, return. The Air Train people have given us a discount whereby you can obtain a ticket for $15 return - that's a 46% saving. You will need a copy of their Offer Letter to obtain your tickets, print out the letter and present it at the ticket office when you buy your ticket. You will need one copy of the Offer per ticket purchased, ie:  husband and wife = 2 letters.

You can get a copy of the Offer HERE. Print out as many as you need.

That will be the end of the official program and anyone wishing to leave may do after obtaining written permission from the Air Courier (right).

Both John and I will have more time to meet and mingle once all the official duties are finished.

Sponsors.

As previously mentioned, DVA has contributed $5,000 to our Meet and Greet and the Kedron Wavell Sub Branch has contributed $4,500 towards the cost of our commemorate Port crock. I'm still waiting for more details on the crock and as soon as they come to hand I will put pictures on the website.

We are ordering about 275 crocks and will offer our 200 members first opportunity to purchase one or more, any that are left over can then be purchased by non-members, family, friends et cetera. If there are any left over after that, we'll meet on my back lawn, fire up the barby and polish the lot off.

I have yet to speak to the Brisbane City Council and the State Government but I'm sure (hope??) they will also contribute to our reunion. I am still seeking a major sponsor but this may not happen. If any of you out there wish to sponsor or get involved you are more than welcome to so do and you can contact myself or John McDougall.

I will have some A3 and A4 size banners which I will post to each state and they can put them in the appropriate places so that members and friends and family can be made aware of our reunion. I will be getting some media exposure down the track but it is still early days.

I hope everyone supports our reunion as with age and illness it possibly could be our last major chance to get together. I also hope those who are not members of our association, but who had something to do with Wallaby Airlines, will join us and join in the festivities and help us commemorate the 40th year anniversary of 35 Sqn which left Vietnam in Feb 1972.
